Jaguar to discontinue the XK

Jaguar has announced that production of the XK will end due to poor sales. Reasoning for poor sales isn’t solely attributed to the XK per se, but they can thank their F-type for that. Just a year after the launch of the F-Type, Jaguar has sold less than 4000 XK coupe and cabriolet models. These numbers helped determine the XK’s fate and Jaguar has chosen to focus their efforts on other models like the F-type coupe and the XE Sport Sedan.

In the last three months of 2012, Jaguar sold 1000 XK units, but in the last three months of 2013 the sales fell significantly with the XK falling short to the F-type, which is based on the XK despite the difference between the positioning and the price point.

There has been no official word on if there will be a replacement car for the XK but Jaguar design director, Ian Callum said executives were “going through a lot of discussion” and that the XK could evolve to “allow the car to become a bit more special than a GT.”
