After six-months at the Grenoble University Hospital, Formula One racing legend Michael Schumacher is no longer in a coma.
News started to spread Monday morning through his manager, Sabine Kehm that Schumacher left the hospital and will now start “to continue his long phase of rehabilitation.” There’s still no word of how his condition is, but it’s very optimistic news that he’s able to attempt rehab.
Schumacher, 45 will be receiving treatment at the Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland, close to the city where the Schumacher’s reside.
“For the future, we ask for understand that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye,” Kehm stated on Monday.
Schumacher first landed in a coma on December 29th, after sustaining a major head injury during a skiing accident in the French Alps. He had been wearing a helmet, but the blow was too much to absorb and split the helmet. He was immediately rushed to the Grenoble University Hospital and operated on for a brain hemorrhage and left in a coma to decrease swelling in his brain.
It’s very likely that Schumacher has sustained long-term effects from his accident, but hopefully he can recover from his long-term rehabilitation. We will keep you posted of any more updates, once they’re received.
