NY Auto Show: 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai has revealed their 2015 Sonata sedan at the New York International Auto Show borrowing some design components from the Genesis sedan.

Styling isn’t the only thing to talk about when it comes to the Sonata.  The South Korean automaker is planning to continue offering a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine available for all models and a 2.0-litre turbo as well. The 2.4-litre engine will be good for 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, which is just over a 1.5-kilometre decrease for hp and torque. The 2.0-litre turbo has more than just a bit of a decrease with torque and horsepower. The new engines will push out 245 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers show a drop of 29 hp and 9 lb-ft. of torque. Both engines will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai is adding a Sport trim and when paired with the turbocharged engine, it will also come equipped with larger brakes and a sportier suspension. 18-inch wheels will come standard with those models and will also have a more aggressive body as well as quad exhaust pipes. Base models will be wearing 16-inch alloy wheels, which is part of the standard equipment package.

All models will come with Bluetooth, satellite radio and buyers will have an option of purchasing an eight-inch screen upgrade that will have navigation and split screen music display as well. The models with the screen will be able to rewind up to 22 minutes of playback on the radio and support Siri Eyes Free iPhone integration. The automakers Bluelink system is also included and will offer upgrades like a remote starter through a mobile device, Google destination searches and a care app that can schedule dealer maintenance towards the car.

The 2015 Sonata is set to go on sale this summer and the cars will be built at the company’s plant in Montgomery, Alabama. The new models will have a stiffer chassis with an improved co-efficient of drag lower than other non-hybrids.

The automaker is offering new convenience technologies including automatically adjusting high beams, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with abilities to stop the car completely and rear cross-traffic alerts to avoid fender benders.
