NY Auto Show: 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe

The car is based on the S-Class Coupe that was in Geneva not long ago. The S63 will be equipped with a hand-built twin turbo 5.3-litre V8 engine good for 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. The power will be sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed MCT Speedshift transmission.

Weighing in at 4,400 pounds, the S63 can jump from a stop to about 99 kilometres per hour in just 3.9 seconds and tops out at nearly 300 kilometres per hour. EPA figures have not been announced yet, but the fuel economy is kept in check with a standard start/stop system.

The S63 AMG is roughly 140 pounds lighter than the CL63 AMG and that’s because of the lithium-ion battery and aluminum body parts.  Inside sits a striking three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum pedals and power-adjustable sport seats that are wearing Nappa leather. The AMG emblem will also be embossed in the center armrest.

Mercedes will be starting the S63 AMG Coupe’s production by offering a limited-edition model dubbed Edition 1. The model will have features including a Magno Alanite Gray matte paint job, Swarovski crystals in the headlights, carbon ceramic brakes and two-tone red and black leather upholstery.

The S63 AMG Coupe will go on sale across the United States during the fall of 2015. Pricing has not yet been announced.
