GM to assist recalled owners with loaner cars and rebates

With all of the bad news coming from the General Motors (GM) recall, GM is planning to offer a $500 cash discount off of a new car purchase for those affected by the ignition switch recall. The discounts will be good for any model from 2013 to 2015. For those not looking to buy a new car, GM will be giving out loaner cars to customers who request them until their current car is fixed. If drivers do not feel safe driving their car to be fixed at a dealership – they can arrange a tow truck that will be fully covered by GM.

Not just one, but multiple investigations are currently undertaken by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the U.S. Justice Department and GM itself to figure out how such a large issue, which was discovered in 2004 was not treated until now – 10 years later. The repair of the affected vehicles, which include the Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevy HHR, Pontiac G5, Saturn Ion and the Saturn Sky is expected to start on April 7. The problem with the recalled cars is that the ignition switch can turn to the off position causing the engine and airbags to shut off. Also on your key rings, GM is requesting that customers remove excess weight from the rings because that can, along with jarring can turn to ignition switch to off.
