Cadillac to add flagship in 2016

Over the past few years, Cadillac has revitalized its luxury brand and now will be adding to it a new rear-wheel drive flagship.

We don't know the name of the vehicle yet, but it will take styling cues from the Elmiraj coupe and the Ciel concepts. The new vehicle will be added to the Cadillac roster and sit above their current large sedan offering, the XTS.

The new flagship sedan will directly turn its attention to its competitors that would include the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Jaguar XJ and Audi A8.

It's expected to be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in April as a 2016 model year car with a selling date at the end of next year. It will be built at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant where the current trio of Chevrolet's Impala, Malibu and Volt, along with the Cadillac ELR are built.

"The objective for this upcoming model is to lift the Cadillac range by entering the elite class of top-level luxury cars," said new Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen.

The new vehicle is expected to have Cadillac's “super cruise” system, which will be a form of autonomous driving. It will allow the new sedan to take command in all aspects of driving including steering, accelerating and braking, while maintaining a safe distance from surrounding vehicles.

It will be the job of de Nysschen to continue elevating the Cadillac brand and continue the sales and brand-awareness upswing. There might be further changes to come, but for now the addition should add some extra hype and excitement.
